HISPANIC WRITERS PROJECT AT SCR

South Coast Repertory’s 1987 Hispanic Playwrights Project has chosen three scripts for public readings July 10-11 and will offer a free seminar by Marie Irene Fornes, director of the New York INTAR Playwrights Unit, next Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The six playwrights chosen this year are Sam Garcia, Alfred Lopez, Jose Rivera, Ana Maria Simo, Bernardo Solano and Estella Portillo Trambley. Garcia, Lopez and Solano’s plays will receive private readings for resident theater representatives throughout the country. Public readings of Rivera’s “The Promise” will take place at 7:30 p.m. July 10; Simo’s “Passion” at 2:30 p.m. July 11 and Trambley’s “Blacklight” at 7:30 p.m. July 11.
The theater is at 655 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa. Tickets for the play readings are $5. Information: (714) 957-4033.
