Driver Steve Reynolds was in critical condition at an Indianapolis hospital after his hydroplane became airborne and overturned on the third heat of the Madison Regatta at Madison, Ind.
Reynolds, 39, of Kirkland, Wash., was leading the heat when the crash occurred. He was unconscious when removed from his hydroplane and was taken by ambulance to a Madison hospital. He later was taken by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
A hospital official said Reynolds was in the Neuro Critical Unit, but said details of his injuries were not available.
