Brian Downing’s Lawsuit Over Lease Settled

California Angels slugger Brian Downing’s breach-of-contract lawsuit against Bank of America Leasing Corp. was settled out of court Monday.
Downing had alleged that the firm misled him on the lease of equipment for an ill-fated Buena Park restaurant venture in 1980. Downing, who was a minority general partner in a partnership with the now-defunct Littlefield Restaurant Corp., contended that the unpaid balance of a $204,000 loan should be forgiven.
The leasing firm’s lawyer, Howard Steinberg, said the two sides agreed, after closed-door talks Friday and Monday, that Downing should repay some of the loan but not all of it.
He said the agreement stipulated that neither side disclose the amount of the settlement.
