New Mexico authorities recaptured a prison escapee less than two miles from the penitentiary, and hundreds of officers under shoot-to-kill orders searched for six other inmates who escaped with him Saturday. Hector B. Torres Jr. was apprehended at a Santa Fe race track, officials said. Torres was returned to the Penitentiary of New Mexico, where he was serving a 21-year sentence for kidnaping, armed robbery and aggravated battery.
