Coca-Cola’s income was up 18.1%for the second quarter. Worldwide soft drink unit volume increased 6% in the quarter, the Atlanta-based company said, and the performance reflects the success of volume-building activities. While soft drink operations gained, Coca-Cola’s entertainment operations posted an operating loss in the second quarter due to the poor box-office performance of the film “Ishtar.” In the company’s food businesses, lower citrus volume and higher marketing investments, primarily related to new products, caused operating income to decline during the quarter.
