A. Alfred Taubman, 61, the owner of Sotheby’s auction house and reportedly worth $800 million, left his chauffeured limousine outside the Palm Beach (Fla.) County Courthouse on Tuesday to testify that leaks in nine rooms had turned his dream home into a money pit--and he blames the architect, Richard Meier. Taubman claims Meier, the architect for the new J. Paul Getty Center, botched the dream house he designed for $2 million 10 years ago and wants $1 million to fix the leaks. Meier’s lawyer argued that Taubman injected himself into the design and construction of the house and is therefore responsible for any flaws.
