Delta Air Lines said its income more than doubled in the fourth quarter to $58.8 million from $22.2 million a year ago. For the fiscal year, Delta posted a fivefold increase in income to $263.7 million. The Atlanta-based company said results reflect the acquisition of Western Air Lines last December, and the merger of Western into Delta on April 1. Prior periods reflect only Delta results. The airline also noted that traffic demand continued to grow and the company’s market share increased.
