Irish Republican Army guerrillas burst into the home of an ailing policeman and shot him to death in front of his wife, Northern Ireland authorities said. They said two gunmen attacked as Constable Norman Alexander Kennedy, 41, home on sick leave, and his wife were watching television in the Protestant town of Ballymena. Kennedy was the 12th police officer to be killed this year. The almost exclusively Roman Catholic IRA is fighting to drive Britain out of Northern Ireland and unite the province with the Irish Republic.
