4.3 Million Homes Sold Last Year, Most Since 1979

Just in case you haven’t noticed, a lot of homes are changing hands.
Last year, 4.3 million housing units were sold. According to the Savings Institutions Sourcebook, it was the housing industry’s most active year since 1979.
The nation’s savings and loans financed the purchase of more than 2 million one-to-four-family housing units last year, the second highest number on record and the most since 1977.
The value of the housing units sold last year was slightly more than $435 billion.
