Khomeini Cancels Holiday Appearance

NICOSIA, Cyprus — Iran’s leader, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, has canceled all appointments for today, the final day of the Muslim Feast of the Sacrifice, Tehran radio reported Wednesday.
The broadcast, monitored in Nicosia, gave no reason for the unexpected cancellation of the appointments of the 87-year-old fundamentalist patriarch.
It is unusual for such a prominent Islamic leader to be absent from the feast observances unless he is ill. The ayatollah was reported to have suffered a heart attack last year, and questions about his health periodically arise.
