A boy died instantly when he was run over by a cement mixer truck Thursday on Pacific Coast Highway near the entrance to Bolsa Chica State Beach, officials said.
The youth, Gordon Waldrop, 12, of Huntington Beach was identified by police after his parents called them at about 8 p.m. to report that their son had not returned home from the beach.
“They were emotionally distraught,” said Sgt. Dennis Martin.
The boy was crossing the highway on his bicycle about 9 a.m. when he was struck by the westbound truck, Huntington Beach Police Lt. John L. Foster said.
The truck driver was released at the scene and not cited, pending further investigation, Foster said.
