Jetliner Crew Lends Hand to Get Landing Gear Into Position

ABILENE, Tex. — The crew of an American Eagle jetliner with 15 people aboard had to manually pump the plane’s landing gear into place before it could land, airport officials said Friday.

American Eagle Flight 3522 left Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport about 5:30 p.m. Thursday and had problems retracting its landing gear. The plane returned to Dallas but airline officials could not find a problem, passengers said.

The twin-engine Gulfstream Turboprop again left Dallas and had another problem with the landing gear in Abilene. The crew had to pump down the landing gear to land safely, said Abilene Municipal Airport Officer Robert Roysden.
