“Astral Weeks.” Van Morrison. Warner Bros. Finally available in CD, this exquisite 1968 album remains both a beautifully mystical and heartwarmingly personal examination of soul and self. Its inspiring songs reflect a personal vision as influential and original as anything rock had seen since the arrival of Dylan. Though Morrison has recorded more than a dozen, mostly acclaimed LPs since “Astral Weeks,” each seems to be an extension of a thread introduced here. A collection of extraordinary richness and depth, “Astral Weeks” combines jazz, blues, folk and rock touches with almost hypnotic grace. Sound quality: fair. ****
