Wal-Mart Stores logged a 40% increase in income for the second quarter to $134 million. During the quarter, the Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer opened 27 new Wal-Mart stores, 21 Sam’s Wholesale Clubs (including 17 units acquired from Super Saver Warehouse Club) and two Dot Discount Drug Stores, for a total of 4,071,000 square feet of new retail space.
