The Nation : 58 Named in Bribe Case

Forty-four present and former New York municipal officials, most of them highway superintendents, of cities from Westchester County to the Canadian border have been arrested on bribery charges, federal officials said. Fourteen officials and employees of five New York and New Jersey supply companies were charged with bribery, mail fraud and racketeering. The officials said the local governments were defrauded of about $750,000 and an FBI undercover agent paid $40,000 in bribes over the 2 1/2 years of the sting operation.
