Moderate Earthquake Shakes Peruvian Coast

LIMA, Peru — An earthquake registering 5.1 on the Richter scale shook the central Pacific coast of Peru, alarming residents of the port of Chimbote, 230 miles northwest of the capital, but causing no damage or injuries, authorities said.
The earthquake, which struck Monday, was the second in Peru in two days. It was centered under the Pacific Ocean floor 75 miles southwest of the port of Casma, the Geophysical Institute of Peru said.
