Cerritos : Disaster Relief Funds Ready
Some of the city’s last checks for survivors of last year’s plane crash will soon be in the mail. With 70% of the $183,000 collected for the Cerritos Disaster Assistance Fund already distributed, the City Council has voted to give most of the remaining money to relatives of victims.
A trust fund established for Theresa Estrada will get the largest share, nearly $30,000. Mrs. Estrada’s husband and two of her children were killed when a jetliner collided with a small plane and crashed into their Cerritos neighborhood last August. Kainan Wang, a boarder in one of the destroyed homes, will receive $5,000. Florence Chasenah, Wilfred Logan and Wendell Starr will each receive $2,500.
That will leave the disaster fund with about $16,500, which has been set aside for people seeking mental health counseling.
Established by the Cerritos City Council last September, the aid money was donated by about 2,000 people.
