Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III arrived in Beijing to lead a delegation of about 1,000 U.S. lawyers and businessmen seeking to promote trade with China. They will attend a three-day Sino-American conference on trade, investment and economic law with more than 500 Chinese lawyers and officials starting Monday. Chinese officials described the conference as the most significant legal exchange in history between the two countries. The meetings will concentrate on commercial law with a view to boosting U.S.-Chinese trade. Delegates will also be given a rare look at Chinese prisons, courts and a labor reform center.
