Detectives were without suspects or a motive in the stabbing deaths of two men late Thursday in the Van Nuys apartment they shared, Los Angeles police said.
The names of the dead men, aged 26 and 32, were not disclosed pending notification of relatives.
A witness reported seeing two men running from the apartment, where the 26-year-old man was found lying on the bedroom floor, Detective Mel Arnold said.
The 32-year-old man apparently was stabbed before he staggered outside and collapsed in front of another apartment in the one-story building in the 14400 block of Valerio Street, he said.
Police were called to the building at 9:45 p.m. Thursday after someone reported hearing gunshots, Arnold said. Detectives are investigating whether shots actually were fired, but a knife that may have been used in the killings was found inside the apartment, he said.
There was no sign of forced entry, he said.
