A Megadisappointment at Doherty’s This Time

AUBURN, Mass. — Three times, state lottery tickets bought at E. J. Doherty’s Auburn Package Store have been the Megabucks jackpot winners in drawings held on the 22nd day of the month.
But the people who lined up for tickets at Doherty’s liquor store last week, shelling out nearly $20,000 in the hope of striking it rich Saturday--the 22nd of the month--were losers this time around.
Instead, the winning ticket in Saturday’s Megabucks drawing was sold at the Big C. Fruit Bowl in Medford, a city that adjoins Boston to the north. The winner, not yet identified, will get $2,737,280.
