Hertz, the world’s largest car rental firm, announced that it will be pulling out of South Africa over the next 18 months and merging its operations with a local firm, Imperial Car Rental. In a statement issued to the South African Press Association, Hertz also said it will no longer issue international credit cards to South Africans. Over the last year, a number of American businesses--including General Motors and Coca-Cola--have quit the country, citing an economic slump and pressure from anti-apartheid campaigners.
