The Alexander Family Murders

As a graduate of a high school with heavy integration from the South-Central Los Angeles area, I, like others, have become acquainted with young people who are active in gangs, drug dealing or selling of arms.

Gangs are out of control partly due to the younger generation’s glamorization of them. “Gangsters” and dope dealers not only fail to arouse fear in young people but are often the object of envy and affection. Gang members are proud of their publicity. This article, and others like it, tends to boost a gang’s morale. There is no easy answer to this problem in a society that looks up to financial success, regardless of the means.
