Prison Official Slain in Illinois

PONTIAC, Ill. — A prison official was killed today when he was assaulted with a homemade knife and iron pipe, authorities said. Pontiac Correctional Center was locked down after the attack, said Nick Howell, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Corrections. No one was being held in the death of Supt. Robert L. Taylor, 44, third in command at the prison, Howell said.
