Outspoken anti-apartheid leader Rev. T. Simon Farisani said in St. Paul, Minn., that he plans to teach in Berkeley now that he has completed several months of treatment at the Minnesota Center for Torture Victims. Farisani said he will not return to South Africa immediately because the white government there has made it impossible for him to carry out his duties as deputy bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church by restricting his movements in his homeland of Venda. He said he will move to Berkeley to lecture on social justice and study theology at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Farisani, 40, said South Africa has imprisoned him and tortured him numerous times.
