Torrance : Animal Law Modified
Responding to complaints by pit bull owners, the City Council tentatively approved modifications to its recently passed ordinance regulating dangerous animals.
The amendments spell out the administrative procedure to be followed when an animal is suspected of being or alleged to be dangerous. Pit bull owners had expressed fears that city officials might impound their dogs and order them killed without sufficient basis.
In approving the amendments, the council overruled a staff recommendation that denied animal owners the right to appeal an adverse ruling to the council.
