A 20-year-old woman died Wednesday when a van allegedly ran a red light and collided with her moped at a San Carlos intersection, police said.
Theresa Gutkaiss, a freshman at Grossmont College, was pronounced dead at Sharp Memorial Hospital at 2:25 p.m, about 90 minutes after the 1 p.m. accident at Boulder Lake Avenue and Navajo Road.
The driver of the van, Sheila Stone Korn, 37, of San Diego, was not arrested, but an investigation into the incident is continuing, police said. “The van is believed to have run a red light,” police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Gutkaiss was headed north on Boulder Lake when she collided with Korn’s van, which was westbound on Navajo, police said.
