PROVO, Utah — Quarterback Bob Jensen and fullback Mike Salido each ran for two touchdowns Friday night in leading Brigham Young to a 45-24 victory over Utah State before a Cougar Stadium-record crowd of 65,721.
Jensen’s 25-yard touchdown run on a broken pass play gave BYU a 17-6 halftime lead. He also scored on a 4-yard run early in the third quarter of the nonconference game.
Salido, BYU’s third-string fullback making his first collegiate start, rushed for 67 yards and scored on runs of 1 and 7 yards. He also caught 6 passes for 29 yards.
Salido’s second touchdown, two plays after BYU recovered a fumble at the Aggie 18, proved to be the game-winner for the Cougars (3-2). Utah State is 0-4.
The old attendance record for Cougar Stadium was 65,508, set in 1984, also against the Aggies. The victory was BYU’s fifth straight against Utah State.
