After the Quake : Red Cross: Fund Appeal for Quake Relief

The West San Gabriel Valley Red Cross Chapter is appealing for monetary contributions for families needing help after the earthquake.
The number of families seeking help from the Red Cross is “growing by the moment,” with 142 people now staying at a shelter set up at the Joslyn Center in Alhambra, spokeswoman Elizabeth Quirk said.
The money donated will help the Red Cross provide families with food, clothing, shelter, medical care, home repairs and other needs, Quirk said.
“Although we do have the funds to operate . . . it’s been a drain,” Quirk said.
Quirk said the chapter is discouraging contributions except for money, unless someone has a large quantity of goods or materials.
Local Red Cross chapters get funding from the national organization, but the goal is for each chapter to remain independent with the community’s help, she said.
Checks should be made payable to the American Red Cross and sent to 17 South 1st St., Alhambra 91801. All checks should indicate that the money is for the local earthquake fund.
Cash contributions can also be dropped off at the chapter’s office on 1st Street, Quirk said.
