Bellflower : Rent Control to Be Debated

After listening to complaints from several mobile home owners, the Bellflower City Council is expected to consider a proposed mobile home rent control ordinance at Monday night’s meeting.
About 150 residents met with city officials last week to protest rent increases and conditions at several of the city’s 46 mobile home parks.
The proposed ordinance will be patterned after a Thousand Oaks rent control ordinance passed in that city in 1980, said Gonzalo Vasquez, an assistant to the city administrator.
“Basically, it will establish a rent adjustment commission that will consist of one landlord, one tenant and three others who are neither,” Vasquez said. The commission would be responsible for reviewing requests for rent increases, he said.
