Kremlin Critical of Reagan on Nicaragua

MOSCOW — The Soviet Union, in reacting to President Reagan’s bid to provide further aid for the Nicaraguan contras , accused Washington of undermining the Central American peace plan.

Yuri Pavlov, head of the Soviet Foreign Ministry’s Latin America Department, said in an interview carried by the official Tass news agency: “The U.S. Administration is undermining the very essence of the Guatemala agreement because one of its main articles provides for a cease-fire and for the end to outside assistance to all non-regular troops engaged in military operations in countries of the region.”
