George Menges hit tight end Marshall Eddy for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to lead Tustin to a 14-10 nonleague victory over West Torrance in front of an estimated 1,000 Friday at West Torrance.
Tustin (3-2) was held back with 115 yards worth of penalties in the game.
West Torrance (1-4) tried to rally late in the fourth quarter.
With 23 seconds left to play, quarterback Mike Berry was intercepted by Monty Jones on the Tustin 30.
Fullback Chris Gankema scored the Tillers’ first touchdown on a one-yard run in the third quarter. Jason Lavin helped Tustin with two extra-point kicks.
In other nonleague games:
Laguna Hills 28, Santa Paula 28--Quarterback Chris Leigber threw for 363 yards to lead the Hawks to a nonleague tie in front of 2,200 at Santa Paula.
Receiver Brian Fleming made 18 receptions for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Santa Paula running back Joey Magdaleno caught a game-tying 45-yard pass from Will McInerney in the final two minutes of the game, but the extra-point attempt failed, securing the tie.
Katella 28, La Mirada 25--Quarterback Jeff Yourstone threw two touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Knights (4-1) at La Mirada.
Katella built a 28-7 lead in the third quarter when Yourstone threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Ted Brown.
La Mirada scored 18 consecutive points, including a 14-yard touchdown pass on the last play of the game. Joe Pastorello gave Katella a 7-0 lead with a 66-yard run in the first period.
Yourstone boosted the Knights to a 14-7 lead with a five-yard run which started a 21-point drive.
Nogales 35, Santa Ana Valley 22--Nogales running back Daryl Green, San Gabriel Valley’s leading rusher, rushed for 120 yards in 15 carries and 2 touchdowns including a 90-yard kickoff return to lead Nogales at home.
Both of Green’s touchdowns answered Santa Ana Valley’s scores.
Joaquin Scott led Santa Ana Valley with a 75-yard kickoff return. Nogales quarterback Roman Chivira completed 6 of 11 passes for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns and scored on a 41-yard run.
Troy 55, Savannah 0--Quarterback Brad Zettiere completed 6 of 10 passes for 150 yrds and 3 touchdowns at Glover Stadium.
Troy was helped by running backs Mark Stitcher (57 yards rushing in 11 carries) and junior Tom Wilson (61 yards in 6 carries, 40-yard touchdown run). Wilson also intercepted a pass and returned it 26 yards in the third quarter.
Troy (4-1) held Savannah (0-5) to two first downs, 4 yards rushing and 18 yards passing for the entire game.
