John Ziegler, president of the National Hockey League, testified that he is considering strengthening the league’s anti-tampering rules.
Ziegler, appearing on the third day of the Vancouver Canucks’ civil suit against the NHL, said it would be a good idea to force teams to file with the league all contracts governing their management and coaching staffs.
Under current NHL rules, contracts are only protected against tampering if they are filed with the league office.
The trial stems from the Canucks’ signing of Pat Quinn as general manager and president last season while he was coaching the Kings.
At the end of the day’s proceedings, the trial was adjourned until Oct. 23, when both sides will present final arguments.
