Whittier Hustles to Inspect Thousands of Structures for Quake Damage Evaluation

Richard Hubinger has been a busy man since the Oct 1 earthquake rattled Whittier. Hubinger is the city’s director of building and safety.
In the two weeks since the temblor, he said, the city has inspected more than 2,400 buildings. That includes both commercial and residential structures.
The city could not have done so much work without a lot of outside help, he said, noting that 16 cities, including Los Angeles, have either sent help or offered it.
Still, the job is far from complete. He said the city has a backlog of 1,700 inspections.
