A men’s team from the Sunset Hills Country Club in Thousand Oaks recently advanced as far as the quarterfinals of the USTA/Volvo Tennis League national championships for 4.5 teams before being eliminated.
The league groups teams into six categories, ranging from 2.5 (novice) to 5.0 (advanced). After emerging on top among Ventura County teams, Sunset Hills won the sectional tournament, which was held in August at UCLA.
At the nationals this past weekend in Las Vegas, Sunset Hills beat Rhode Island and Virginia, 3-2, but lost to Oklahoma City, the eventual champion, 3-2.
