The Los Angeles County welfare roll declined slightly in July, county officials reported Wednesday.
The Department of Public Social Services said 908,885 people received assistance in July, the last month for which figures are available. That is a decrease of 4,616 from June.
Officials said that the drop occurred despite an increase in the county unemployment rate from 5.7% in June to 6.6 % in July.
