Investors dumped shares of Newmont Mining, knocking its price down sharply, in the apparent belief that the quest for the company by corporate raider T. Boone Pickens Jr. is all but dead. Newmont shares fell $13 to $45.625 Friday in Wall Street’s record one-day point decline. A Delaware Court has upheld stock purchases equaling 23% of Newmont by its ally Consolidated Gold Fields. The purchases boosted the British mining company’s stake in Newmont to 49.7%.
