A Koreatown sixth-grader riding a bus home from school suffered a superficial head wound Tuesday afternoon when a bullet apparently fired at the vehicle shattered a window near where the girl was sitting, authorities said.
The bus, contracted by the Los Angeles Unified School District, was bringing Yoon Joo Oh home from Plainview Avenue Elementary School in Tujunga when the incident occurred at 3:50 p.m. on Alvarado Street near Montana Street in the Echo Park district, Los Angeles police said.
School district spokeswoman Eva Hain said the youngster, who was the sole passenger on the bus, was taken to Queen of Angels Hospital where she was treated. Detectives said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were under investigation.
It was not immediately determined if the bullet actually struck the youngster.
