Public attitudes toward growth will be the topic of a hearing Thursday in Costa Mesa planned by the state Senate Select Committee on Planning for California’s Growth.
State Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach), chairwoman of the committee, has planned the hearing, which will look at growth on local, regional and state levels.
Among the speakers at the conference will be pollsters Mervin Field and UC Irvine’s Mark Baldassare. Also on the program is Mark Pisan, executive director of the Southern California Assn. of Governments, who will review SCAG’s forecast for business, housing and transportation.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel.
Bergeson is also chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, which will stage a hearing on “infrastructure financing” Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Irvine City Council Chambers, 17200 Jamboree Road, Irvine.
Focus of the hearing will be on Bergeson’s SB 1295, which would set up a new state bonding authority agency that would help local governments get access to the national bond market for lower interest rates.
