Flights Resume as Fog Lifts in Moscow

MOSCOW — Heavy fog, which stranded thousands of passengers at Moscow airports, lifted on Saturday, allowing air travel to resume after six days of cancellations, airport spokesmen said.
Asked about flights abroad, a spokesman at the capital’s international airport, Sheremetyevo, said, “They have started leaving.”
The Communist Party newspaper Pravda quoted an Aviation Ministry spokesman as saying the state airline Aeroflot had lost almost $3.2 million in the last week.
Secretary of State George P. Shultz was forced to travel to Moscow by train from Helsinki on Thursday because of the fog.
