Valencia High School scored four touchdowns in a five-minute span in the first half en route to a 34-0 Orange League victory over Savanna Thursday night at Valencia.
The victory kept Valencia (7-2, 3-1) tied with Anaheim for first place in the league.
The Tigers scored their first touchdown with 2:17 left in the first quarter on a 31-yard pass play from Robert Navarette to Mike Edwards. The score capped an 88-yard, 7-play drive.
Less than a minute later, on Valencia’s next offensive play, the Tigers extended their lead to 14-0 on a 35-yard Navarette pass to Rob Luna. The touchdown was set up by defensive back Nacho Garcia, who recovered a fumble by Savanna’s Stephen Wagner at the Rebel 35.
After the ensuing kickoff, Valencia defensive back Randy Roskelly intercepted a pass by Tony Osendorf at the Rebel 40. After a face mask penalty against Savanna (0-9, 0-4) moved the ball to the 25, Valencia’s Keef Leasure scored on a run with 30 seconds left in the first quarter to give Valencia a 21-0 lead.
Valencia got its fourth touchdown on a 10-yard Roskelly run with three minutes gone in the second quarter.
