Fremont General narrowed its loss to $23.2 million in the third quarter, from a loss of $30.6 million a year ago. The Santa Monica financial services company noted that an after-tax provision of $31.4 million was taken for potential losses anticipated in connection with liquidation of discontinued operations. The company said earnings from continuing operations jumped 447% to $8.2 million.
