The U.N. Security Council unanimously demanded that South Africa unconditionally withdraw all its forces from Angola, where they have been involved in heavy fighting in recent weeks in support of rebels battling the Marxist regime. The council’s resolution strongly condemned South Africa for its “aggression” and asked Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar to monitor its response to the pullout demand and report back by Dec. 10. South Africa has proposed a pullout by Dec. 9 if all other foreign forces do the same, a reference to the 30,000 Cuban troops and a number of Soviet officers in Angola.
