Santa Monica : Preferential Parking OKd
The City Council Tuesday gave preliminary approval to an ordinance establishing a preferential parking zone on 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th streets between Wilshire Boulevard and California Avenue.
Cars will not be allowed to park in the area for more than two hours on Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. without a permit, which will cost $15 a year.
The ordinance was written in response to a petition from area residents asking for preferential parking because of heavy non-residential traffic from businesses on Wilshire.
Councilman Herb Katz cast the lone negative vote, saying preferential parking zones are a “short-term, Band-Aid” approach that does not really resolve parking problems.
