Two skiers who became lost and holed up in their disabled vehicle for 10 days in the snowbound Arizona wilderness may face amputation because of severe frostbite to their feet, doctors said. Lisa Barzano, 18, of Phoenix and Jami Goldman, 19, of Scottsdale were in Scottsdale Memorial Hospital, where doctors upgraded their condition to fair, but said they would wait a week before determining if amputation was required. “They are getting better, but . . . there will be some permanent damage,” Dr. Leonard Bodell said. Hospital spokeswoman Kay Ferris said the two women, who survived their ordeal playing backgammon and cards and eating peanuts, a sweet roll and melted snow, spent a fitful night after they were transferred to the facility from the White Mountain Hospital and Care center in northeastern Arizona.
