Golden West Wins, 88-84

Sophomore forward Kathy Werth scored a game-high 24 points to lead Golden West College to an 88-84 victory over Cerritos Friday night in a South Coast Conference women’s basketball game at Huntington Beach.
It was the 16th consecutive victory for Golden West (18-1, 2-0), which was the top-ranked team in the first state poll of the season released Friday.
Sophomore guard Jeannine Battaglia added 18 points, sophomore guard Kim Takayama 15 and sophomore forward Jane Utu and freshman forward Stephanie Swanson 12 each for the Rustlers.
Golden West led, 43-33, at halftime. Cerritos was never closer than five points in the second half until Robin Longe hit a three-pointer as time ran out.
