A Southern California Rapid Transit District bus hit and killed a man running across the Hollywood Freeway Thursday, authorities said.
The unidentified man was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where spokeswoman Kathryn Smith said doctors worked for an hour to revive him before he died at 8:07 p.m.
The man was run over about 6:55 p.m. when he tried to sprint from the freeway’s center divider to the shoulder, RTD spokesman Rick Jager said. It was not immediately clear why he was on the freeway, as no abandoned car was found nearby, Jager said. The bus struck him in the slow lane.
Sixty passengers and the driver aboard the bus, which was an express from the San Fernando Valley to downtown Los Angeles, were transferred to another bus, Jager said.
Two of four freeway lanes were blocked for about 30 minutes while police investigated the incident.
