Floyd Is Fined $5,000 for Fight With Hornacek

Associated Press

Houston Rockets guard Sleepy Floyd was suspended for one game and fined $5,000 for his part in Wednesday night’s fight with Phoenix’s Jeff Hornacek, the NBA announced Thursday night.

Floyd sat out Houston’s 103-98 victory over Portland Thursday night as part of his punishment.

Floyd’s penalty was announced by Rod Thorn, NBA vice president of operations, for “instigating the initial confrontation and then, after the players had been separated, twice renewing the altercation.”

“Such aggressive conduct, particularly going back after Hornacek once the original incident was over, must result in a strong penalty,” Thorn said in a statement.

The Rockets trailed Portland by five points at halftime Thursday night without Floyd.

“I wondered at the half if he would be worth five points,” Rocket Coach Bill Fitch said.

Hornacek was fined $1,500 for his role in the incident.
