Slumlord Skips Court Date Again

Slumlord Vijaynard Sharma today failed to appear in court for sentencing for the second day and an arrest warrant was issued. He faces sentencing on charges he violated probation and allowed hazardous fire conditions to exist at an apartment building he owned.
Municipal Judge Veronica Simmons-McBeth set bail for Sharma at $500,000. Sharma, one of Los Angeles’ most infamous slumlords, was convicted last year of 112 criminal charges relating to hazardous conditions at apartments and hotels that he owned. Deputy City Atty. Abraham Khan told reporters he feared Sharma had fled the area.
