Gary Stevens Wins Five of the Last Six Santa Anita Races, Including Feature

Unbeaten Winning Colors provided jockey Gary Stevens with one his five victories Wednesday, winning the $80,850 La Centinela Stakes by 6 1/2 lengths before a crowd of 17,125 at Santa Anita.
Winning Colors, the 7-10 favorite, covered one mile in 1:36 3/5 and paid $3.40, $2.80 and $2.40.
Little Password, ridden by Sandy Hawley, was second, three lengths in front of Forewarning, and returned $4.40 and $3.20. Forewarning, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, paid $3.80.
Winning Colors is the only Wayne Lukas-trained filly to be nominated for the Triple Crown races this year.
Stevens also won five races at Santa Anita on April 9, 1986. The track’s one-day record is seven, by Laffit Pincay on March 14, 1987.
Stevens’ other winners, besides Winning Colors in the eighth, were It’s Silver ($8.20) in the fourth race, Silver Circus ($7.60) in the sixth, Valiant Cougar ($13.20) in the seventh and Olimpic Bingo ($5.20) in the ninth.
