BEIJING — An express train bound for Shanghai derailed Sunday in a remote, mountainous region of southern China, killing at least 90 people and seriously injuring 66 others, the New China News Agency said.
It was China’s sixth major transportation accident in a month and came just two days after the government issued emergency orders to upgrade safety nationwide, including on railways, the country’s most widely used transportation.
No foreigners were reported among the dead or injured in the accident, near the border of Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.
